Market Update H1-2025

In the first half of 2025, global stock markets saw a turbulent yet ultimately bullish run, marked by a sharp April sell-off after President Trump announced sweeping “Liberation Day” tariffs on most imports, which sent the S&P 500 down ~4% and the Nasdaq over 5% in a single day. A rapid policy reversal fueled one of the fastest recoveries on record, erasing over US $10 trillion in losses and propelling the S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow to fresh all-time highs by June, with gains of roughly 5–7.5% for the period. Market leadership was heavily concentrated in AI-driven giants like Microsoft and NVIDIA, alongside explosive rallies in AI infrastructure, nuclear energy, and space tech stocks, some soaring over 300%. Crypto equities surged on favorable regulation, gold reached record highs above $3,450 amid geopolitical tensions, and retail investors traded a record $6.6 trillion in equities. Internationally, a weakening U.S. dollar boosted multinational earnings, while European banks posted their strongest first half since 1997. The bond market was volatile, with higher yields creating buying opportunities.
